Speed Project idea.

so, this was mentioned in #qc about a week ago.... and I think it's a really good idea.

I'd need help organizing such an event...

We'd need 2-3 teams of:
 1 coder
 1 modeller
 1 mapper

Anyone interested?

You'd have a week (possibly 2) to make a mod, complete with code from scratch, models, and a playable map at least.

There would be restrictions on the coding, models, and maps.

just tossing an idea out there.

Yeah, I had mentioned the idea of combining speedmodding and speedmapping (SpeedMopping?) - where a mapper and a coder would get together for a speed event and produce something interesting. Adding a modeller would make it a slight bit more complicated, perhaps hard to pull off. I dunno. I'd be willing to map for something like this if it happened though.

/me nabs FrikaC for my partner, as long as he can come up with an idea that fits the theme

I'm sure working alone is fine also right? I mean I map a tiny bit, and obviously code. Modelling would be a problem aside from animation.

Sounds like a good idea to me! It'd be a good way to get junior programmers up to speed and maybe, just maybe, get the attention of some grisled old mappers for a week or so!

Teams might have to be forced to a certain degree, to ensure a good mix of skill levels across the board. At the very least, each team ought to have a veteran to guide them through the process.

I'd be interested too, depending on the theme.

I think the theme could be a bit more flexible... or interesting if you know a map will be involved as well. It could be creating a gameplay environment or similar.

*hopes the mappers are up for this, because, you know, mappers making maps and coders coding code to inhabit it... thats the old school way of Quake content creation!*

All of them. :) Hehe, nah, we'd split up the work somehow.

The main issue with this project is that you'd get 10 coders interested, 5 mappers and maybe 1 modeller.

Yeah, that's why I suggested speedmopping - there are very few modellers around these days.

Well? Let's try it! Just set a date (we might try a turtle-mop, 1-week event for starters, and see how it works out) and let'er fly. I'm game.
